What Makes Tusk Eco-Friendly?

There are many ways a product can be eco-friendly, but at Tusk Toothpowder, we focus on minimizing our waste and reducing our carbon footprint.

Here's How:

Reducing Our Waste

Waste is what is left when we have finished using a product. Did you know that there are over ONE BILLION plastic toothpaste tubes disposed of every year? These tubes cannot be recycled since they are made of plastic and aluminum fused together. So they get sent to the landfill where they take at least 500 years to decompose.

Unfortunately much of our trash ends up in the ocean instead of the landfill. According to National Geographic, there are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the ocean. Of that mass, 269,000 tons float on the surface, while some four billion plastic microfibers per square kilometer litter the deep sea. That’s a lot of waste that can harm animals and our environment.

Tusk Toothpowder is dedicated to delivering zero waste products, including in our manufacturing and shipping processes.
Tusk Toothpowder comes in 100% home compostable bags intended to fill our reusable jars again and again. This means there is no waste left behind when you are done with the product, just pop the shipping pouch and refill bag in the compost, and it will decompose in a few months - Magic!

Reducing Our Carbon Footprint

The second thing Tusk is dedicated to is reducing our carbon footprint. What does that mean, exactly? A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide and methane, that are generated by our actions.

Greenhouse gases are the biggest contributor to climate change. Here in Australia, we know far too well what the consequences are of an ever-warmer planet – bushfires, floods, droughts, and coral bleaching. We can all take small steps to reduce our impact.

One way Tusk reduces their carbon footprint is by shipping with our carbon neutral delivery. This is achieved through using low carbon transport, such as e-bikes, then neutralizing the rest through carbon offsets, such as planting trees.

The second is through our compostable packaging. Our corn-based plastic packaging uses 65% less energy than conventional plastics, according to independent analysis. It also generates 68% fewer greenhouse gases and contains no toxins.

Fun Fact: Shopping online actually has a lower carbon footprint than going to a store to purchase the same product. This is because it is more carbon efficient to ship a package to your door than it is for you to drive to and from shops. (Source)

Our goal is to have as little environmental impact as possible. It’s all small steps, but together we can make a big difference.
